DAMON
O'
|
Damon O's urban/contemporary gospel style is merely a vehicle whose
destination is in people coming to know Jesus and experiencing the
benefits of relationship with Him. The musical journey he has embarked
on thus far has been a lesson in the faithfulness of God's purpose.
The world had a call of it's own for Damon O'Brien. He began singing
solos in his home church, the First Baptist Church of Texas City, Texas at the age of 6. By the age of 13, Damon O' developed a love for singing and could not resist the lure of fame, fortune, and female fans that the R&B music scene offered. "I loved gospel music, but what I was singing about was not real to me." Damon O' began singing with different R&B groups and had even opened for groups such as Roger Troutman and Zapp. He has won numerous area talent shows and awards, including the Sammy Award, in honor of the late Sammy Davis, Jr.
By college, the inner struggle between singing gospel or R&B intensified, as did his popularity in the world of R&B. After reaching a place where young artists would give their all to reach, Damon O' gave up the struggle and totally committed his gift to the Lord. "My calling is not to be a singer. I am a preacher and teacher of the gospel who happens to sing."
Through faith, patience, and perseverance, Damon O' fulfills God's call to share the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ with the world - and through the music and the ministry, the goal of this artist is quite clear: "God has been so faithful to me, and in return I'm totally committed to sing and proclaim His goodness to those who need to know of our Father's great love."
